Concept of backdrop
A photo backdrop is a background used to take pictures. Portrait backdrops come in various sizes and styles, depending on the setting. When used by professional event photographers, whether it’s in studio or on location (think schools), they can be monochromatic, hand-painted, artistic, or abstract or they can feature a scene – usually something bucolic like waterfalls, forests, rainbows or holiday-themed (Christmas or Halloween are among the most popular). As for the material, they can be made of muslin, cloth, canvas or vinyl.
When it comes to our industry, holiday
backdrops are however
usually made of vinyl, a flexible and resistant material, which is particularly
suited for outdoor events. Vinyl backdrops are fully customizable when it comes
to sizes, colors, print patterns and they are available in matte finish for
better photo results.
There are two types of vinyl backdrops:
The square models, which are used for still subjects
such as people or cars (for example check out that sophisticated backdrop we
made for a Unicef event in Beverly Hills below.) Also known as step and repeat
banners, the longer backdrops serve as backgrounds for red carpet events, with
guests walking successively while pausing for photographers or interviews.
Of course, photo backdrops can be purchased or
rented either as stand-alone products or as kits including all the necessary
add-ons to take great pictures: If we are looking for a photography backdrop, we
might also probably need stands, frames, clamps, lights, carrying cases, photo
umbrellas and stanchions.
